The Home Coming

Connie's Kitchen

{From the Archives of Connie's Letters. November 21, 2007.}

Dear Mothers,

This subject sounds like the Waltons Home Coming. . My children will be coming in today from NYC . . Missouri and Illinois.

 My children remind me of the Waltons in some ways. . Each of them trying to find themselves and their places in the scheme of things. . Each strong and vibrant...and full of creativity. . They are writers . . singers and artists . .

 I wish I was more like Olivia though. . strong and sure of herself and her children. . She and her husband John said that each of their children were thoroughbreds. . Johnny tells me "Mom ..Mary will be alright . . she's a Hultquist". . and I think to myself. ."yeah she comes from a long line of Come Back Kids." Tonight everyone will meet here for a Chilli Supper. . cornbread and Apple cider. I may get Brownies made if I have time. .

This morning I have some last minute shopping to do. . Gotta get gas for the car too . . But I can't wait to get back home and do last minute things to add to the comfort of my dear ones' childhood home. . Papa's home. . where our children were raised by faith. .

Papa's heart is with us . . as a part of the cloud of witnesses. He cheers me on from the heavenlies. ."Connie be strong and full of courage, Jesus is with you. . don't be afraid. ."

 I used to, in the old days, worry in a chair. . Papa would come to me and stoop down by my chair and look up at me. ."We have made it through worse than this." And he would take my face and turn it towards his. . and look into my eyes .  ."Connie it will be ok." I see him so often saying that to me as I am a widow now. . "All is well Connie . . Jesus won't let you down." My heart is glad to see the children come home..."Yes Papa, all is well."

Love Connie
